Some of you may have been having trouble recently sending mail, because of a recent configuration change. Because of the need to block spammers from relaying through our site (If this is not done many sites will refuse any email from us), I had turned off external mail connections on the clients, since all incoming mail is routed to the server. However, certain mail programs, notably dtmail and netscape, use this external mechanism to connect to the local sendmail daemon to send mail out, so these programs were unable send mail. Fortunately, they can be configured to connect directly to control. For dtmail, Select the "Options/Advanced..." menu, then in the space marked: "Host to send mail from:" enter control.csl.uiuc.edu This will add the line: set smtpmailserver='control.csl.uiuc.edu' to your .mailrc so that this will work next time also. For netscape (if you ever want to be able to click on one of those email links in a web page and make it work, follow these instructions): Select Edit:Preferences, then expand Mail & Newsgroups, the choose Mail Servers. For "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" enter control.csl.uiuc.edu. Let me know if there are any continuing problems, and thank you for your patience.
