UIUC Decision & Control LaboratoryDecision and Control HelpAdding a Printer under WindowsUnder Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, XP, and presumably later versions, there are two types of printers: Local printers and Network printers. Which one you use depends on your particular configuration.To use install or use a Network printer, you must first authenticate yourself with the server, either by logging in under the Windows domain or by supplying your Windows domain username and password when you access the printer. Local printers do not require Windows domain authentication, but are more trouble to install. The following give general characteristics of each type of printer:
Browse Windows Networking to workgroup/domain named CSL and the system CSL-REDWOOD.
Alternatively, you can click Start -> Run
and enter "\\csl-redwood" in the box
that appears. If you can't connect to CSL-REDWOOD or if anything else goes wrong, you probably have to set up a local printer instead. Select Printers . The following table lists the printers to use for Decision and Control. Right-click on the printer you would like to use, and choose "Connect" from the menu.
