Fixing CD-ROMs in Solaris 9

Solaris 9 has the brilliant feature of disabling the CD-ROMs functions by default, i.e. automounting, ejecting, etc.

How to Fix:

  1. Install patch 112966-02 (or better)
  2. Install the latest patch cluster (I’m not sure what this adds, but it didn’t work until I did this too)
  3. Add the following to the bottom of inetd.conf:
    100155/1        tli     rpc/ticotsord   wait    root    /usr/lib/smedia/rpc.smserverd rpc.smserverd
  4. Restart volmgt (/etc/init.d/volmgt stop; /etc/init.d/volmgt start)
